Prizes: Morning K-12 Scholastic Section: Each grade will have an individual champion, with a trophy for each. Afternoon Open: Trophy to the top Open Championship winner plus CASH PRIZES. All ratings and ages will play in one large afternoon section, but the cash prizes will be given out based on the best scores in rating classes. That way everyone has a good chance of winning money! The prize rating classes are: Open, U2000, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000, U900, U800, U700, U600, U500, U400, Unrated. Prize rating will be based on a player's USCF Quick rating. Cash prize amounts will be based on participation numbers, so please, spread the word! The more players we have, the higher the cash prizes will be. Section prizes may be combined at HCF discretion, especially if sections are not large enough to accommodate the advertised quantity of class prizes.

Tie Breaks: K-12 Morning section: If players are tied after 7 rounds, in order to have a clear individual champion, blitz game play-offs will be used to determine the winner. Afternoon Open: cash prizes will be split evenly among rating class winners with tied scores. If the top players are tied, a blitz game play-off will be used to determine the Open Champion (will not affect cash prize distribution).

Swiss Pairing System: 7-rounds in the K-12 morning, 7-rounds in the Afternoon Open. Non-elimination, quick-rated by the USCF. Rounds 1 and 2 will use "accelerated" pairing.

Time Control: Game in 10 minutes with a 5-second increment (G/10 +5).

Chess Notation: No chess notation is required for this tournament.

Team Pairings: This is not a team event. Everybody will play everybody.

Byes: Any player may have up to two ½-point byes, if requested before the start of round 4.

If a K-12 student only wants to enter one event, register normally through kingregistration.com and pay the $25 registration fee per student (no discounts). If a K-12 student wants to play in both events, add both events to your kingregistration cart. Use the coupon BOTHEVENTS in the kingregistration checkout. This will provide a $12.50 discount per event per player. If you are registering multiple K-12 students and some want to play in only one event and others in both, it's best to register and pay for them separately. *NOTE* You may only use the BOTHEVENTS code if you are registering for both events. If someone uses this code for a single registration in one event, their registration will not be accepted until the full $25 is paid.
  • REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR ADULTS: Adults may only play in the afternoon Open. No coupons or discounts. If you are registering yourself at the same time as K-12 players that are playing in both events, they will use the coupon and you will not. To make it easy, it's best to checkout separately.
