A scholastic tournament honoring the life and memory of local chess enthusiast, Ken Ferguson.

Other events: This is a side event for the Ken Ferguson Memorial. Entry to the scholastic is complimentary if registering also for the main event (use coupon code below). There is also a blitz tournament in the evening after the scholastic.

Venue: Sheraton New Orleans Hotel; 500 Canal, New Orleans, LA 70130. Second floor, in the Rhythms Ballroom.

Format: Four round swiss format, G/25;d5 tournament.

Sections: K-3, K-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12

Registration: 8:45AM-9:15AM; Anyone not registered by 9:15AM will be given a first round bye

Prizes:

• K-3, 1st $100; 2nd $50
• K-5, 1st $100; 2nd $50
• Grades 6-8, 1st $200; 2nd $100
• Grades 9-12, 1st $250; 2nd $150

Entry fee: $30 if received by midnight one week before the event date (Sunday night). $35 if received by midnight two days before (Friday night). $40 day before or same day (Saturday-Sunday).

USCF requirement: Current USCF membership required, join here. If your membership does not have an expiration date, it is not yet current.

Eligibility: All K-12 students are welcome. You do not need to be part of a school or chess team to compete.

Byes: Two half-point byes available upon request. All byes must be requested before round 3, with exceptions made for emergency situations. All bye requests final after beginning of round 1.

Teams: Teams are comprised of the top four players per school per grade section. Minimum two players to qualify as a team. Team totals are calculated using cumulative score of each player.

Late arrivals: Games are forfeited 30 minutes after the round start time if a player has not arrived.

Refunds: Players who withdraw 30 minutes before round one are eligible for a refund of their entry fee, minus any applicable payment-processor fees (typically 5-7%).
