March Open – Day Knight Chess Free USCF-Rated Tournament

Welcome to the Day & Knight March Open! We are moving to a new venue and increasing our capacity for this month's event. Join us for a day of competitive chess at Mt. San Antonio College.

 Location & Parking

  • Venue: Mt. San Antonio College, Heritage Hall (Building 744)

  • Address: 1100 N Grand Ave, Walnut, CA 91789

  • Parking: Use the parking structure located in Lot R (indicated by the white square on the map).

  • Permit Required: Please remember to purchase a daily parking permit at the kiosks to avoid a citation.

  • Walking Directions: Once parked, follow the black line on the map. Walk north past the tennis courts toward Heritage Hall, which is circled in white near the stadium. View Map

Tournament Details

  • Date: Sunday, March 29th, 2026

  • Player Capacity: Limited to 150 participants

  • Entry: FREE for all participants!

  • Food: We will be serving Pizza for all players!


Format & Schedule

All sections will follow the G/30; d10 time control (30 minutes per player with a 10-second delay).

Sections:

  • Open Section: USCF & FIDE Rated (Minimum rating 1300+)

  • U1400, U1000, & U600 Sections: USCF Rated. (Unrated players please join U600 or U1000).

Round Times:

  • Check-in: 8:30 AM

  • Round 1: 9:00 AM

  • Round 2: 10:30 AM

  • Lunch Break: 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM (Pizza served)

  • Round 3: 12:30 PM

  • Round 4: 2:00 PM


Prizes & Requirements

 

  • Prizes: Trophies for the Top 3 in each section and a Gift Raffle for all participants.

  • USCF Membership: All participants must have a current USCF membership. Renew or purchase here: US Chess Membership.

  • Equipment: Please bring your own chess board, pieces, clock, and notation sheets.
